Having designed some of the first Websites to promote shows and sell
tickets, "I have mainly been involved in new markets in the US, finding
ways to bring shows to people in a different way, which is part of what
led me to China."

Choosing "42nd Street" as their debut show for Shanghai, Nederlander
explains: "We thought it was the right beginning as it is one of the most
famous shows on Broadway. It is famous for tap dancing, singing, acting,
a compelling story and has proved successful around the world."

Having brought the cast from North America, Nederlander continues, "Even
the original author (of the 1980 production), Mark Bramble is here as the
director. Making sure that the Chinese audience are getting an authentic
Broadway experience."

However, for the Shanghai performance there is one truly unique aspect.

"There was a young woman who appeared on a Chinese TV program called 'My
Show.' She dreamt of being in a Broadway show so we worked out the
arrangements for her to be in the cast. Now she is in the chorus," he
says.

That's similar to the story of the show, he continues, "Work hard, pursue
dreams and get success."

"42nd Street" has been very well received, he says. "It is quintessential
Broadway so anyone who has interest in Broadway then this is the show to
see."

42nd Street
Date: through September 22, 7:15pm
Venue: Shanghai Majestic Theater, 66 Jiangning Rd
