LOS ANGELES - The cult Hanna-Barbera adventure series "Jonny Quest" is
being revived as a potential movie franchise by Warner Bros. Pictures.
Inspired by radio shows, comic strips and James Bond movies, "Quest" told
the thrilling stories of a young boy who accompanied his scientist father
on extraordinary escapades. Also in the mix were his adopted brother from
Calcutta, his pet bulldog pup, and the government agent assigned to
protect them.
The primetime sci-fi adventure series aired on ABC during the 1964-65
season. It was cancelled not because of low ratings but because it was
too expensive to produce.
A new series was introduced in the late 1980s. Several comic books series
were also published. Various attempts to bring "Quest" to the big screen
came to naught.
The latest attempt was sparked by Adrian Askarieh, a childhood fan of the
show. He will produce with Daniel Alter. Dan Mazeau has been hired to
write the screenplay.
